What is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type 1?
Сomplex regional pain syndrome type 1 (CRPS-1) is a rare and debilitating condition following an injury or trauma to the bone. There are currently no FDA-approved medicines available to treat this high unmet need patient population.
The condition causes intense pain, often throbbing, or “deep” pain that can be continuous in the affected limb – typically in extremities such as the arm, leg, hand or foot.
In the early stages CRPS-1, a “warm” phase may exist where inflammation causes the affected limb to become red, swollen, warm, and exquisitely painful. If unresolved, CRPS-1 often progresses to a chronic “cold” phase, in which the limb turns cool and blue, may become wasted and contracted, while patients face ongoing, debilitating pain.
Our Approach to CRPS-1 with Neridronate
Neridronate is a differentiated bisphosphonate with established efficacy in several bone diseases, including in
CRPS-1 patients.
Its differentiated structure and unique binding characteristics allow for a balance of safety and efficacy compared to other bisphosphonates.
Neridronate is currently approved in Italy for the treatment of multiple bone diseases including CRPS-1. Previous studies support neridronate as a potential first-in-class treatment for CRPS-1 in the United States.
